Nielsen Canada's History

Nielsen Canada celebrated 60 years in business in 2004.  Based in Markham, Ontario, with regional offices in Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal, our principal clients are manufacturers, retailers and brokers in the global consumer packaged goods industry. We also work with clients in a wide range of consumer product and service businesses, such as financial services and the automotive industry. We offer our clients business-directed products and services all designed to meet our core purpose:  Contribute to our customers’ success worldwide by providing a better understanding of their markets.

Our clients and their needs are the focus of our activities, and we recognize and appreciate
their confidence and continued support for Nielsen Canada. Our relationships with our
clients have developed and expanded tremendously over the past six decades from the ten
initial clients with whom we began. Many of our clients have been with us for years,
including some of those inaugural ten from 1944. Here are just a few of our current clients:

• Campbell’s   • Loblaws
• Coca-Cola   • Nestlé
• Heinz   • Pepsi
• Johnson & Johnson   • Procter & Gamble
• Kellogg’s   • Sobeys
• Kraft   • Walmart

In 1945, our product line consisted of two services, the Nielsen Food Index and the Nielsen Drug Index.  By 1985, our product line grew to ten services and now we have a total of more than 25 different products and services to help our clients make informed marketing decisions.

With his unique approach to measuring competitive sales results, Arthur C. Nielsen essentially invented the concept of market share - one of the most critical measures of corporate performance.
